THRESHOLD

THRESHOLD (2019) came about when Augustus first experienced the wood turning lathe. Curious to the technique of turning and having been working with square profiles in his sculpture, this new approach to the work excited the artist.

Once familiar with the process, he took inspiration from the torii gates of Japan and the idea of crossing through the threshold of a building or arch. The artists style was moving towards an interest in modular or repeating forms in wood, with this Augustus conceptualised Threshold.
